The Egyptian Society of Neurological Surgeons ESNS was established in 1967 , shortly afterwards this new society obtained the membership of the World Federation of Neurological Societies WFNS , since that time and till now the ESNS is playing an active role in the progress of neurosurgical practice on local, regional, continental and international levels .

One of the new services offered by the ESNS is this website which is designed to satisfy the needs of neurosurgeons all over the world. On this site you can browse among online editions of the Egyptian Journal of Neurosurgery, important local and international events and meetings and our Neurosurgical Blog where you can share discuss and comment on interesting cases.

History of the Society

Egyptian Society of Neurological Surgeons was founded In 1967, during a meeting at the Maadi Military Hospital. Prof. Boctor was appointed president, Prof. Sorour secretary, and Prof. El Gindi treasurer . They were joined by 7 qualified neurosurgeons and 30 doctors in training. The number of Consultant Neurosurgeons have reached 547 in 2016 with 464 trainees and over 80 centres across Egypt. The Egyptian Society of Neurological Surgeons joined the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies in 1969, with Prof. Boctor and Sorour as delegates.

ACTIVITIES IN THE WORLD FEDERATION OF NEUROSURGICAL SOCIETIES

Egyptian neurosurgeons have participated in numerous international conferences. In 1993, Prof. El Gindi was elected as the second vice president of the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies; in 1997, he became an honorary president. Prof. El Banhawy was one of the founding members of the neurotrauma committee. In 2013 Professor Sherif Ezzat was appointed 2nd vice president for the Arab countries in the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies.

ACTIVITIES IN AFRICAN AND ARAB COUNTRIES

The following are Egyptian names linked to the foundation of the joint Neurological Science Societies in African and Arab countries. Prof. Sorour was the president of the Pan African Association of Neuroscience. Prof. El Gindi was the chairman of the neurosurgical section of the Pan Arab Society of Neurological Sciences and their representative in the European Association of Neurosurgical Societies. Several Egyptian neurosurgeons have been instrumental in establishing neurosurgical departments in Arab countries (especially Saudi Arabia and Kuwait), such as Profs. Mahdi, A.W. Ibrahim, and A. Ammar

Objectives

1.     Initially, the main focus of the society was to publish articles in the Journal of the Egyptian Medical Association; this was before the creation of the Journal of the Egyptian Society of Neurological Surgeons.

2.     The society also held annual meetings and organized training courses to train and update the neurosurgeons knowledge's
